Introduction to Investing 1.12.1

In this lesson, participants are introduced to the basic concepts relating to investing, including rate of return, risk versus return, investment philosophy, portfolio diversification, taxation, and the rule of 72. Participants also learn the basics of each type of investment tool: stocks, bonds, mutual funds, index funds, real estate, and speculative investments. Maryland State Department of Education: Financial Literacy Education Overview

Luke Rhine from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) will be presenting information regarding MSDE’s efforts to incorporate financial literacy education into local school system’s instructional programs.  Information regarding the Financial Literacy Education State Curriculum, Code of Maryland Regulations on financial literacy education, and events concerning financial literary education will be discussed. Additional information will be provided, regarding plans for professional development and using free resources to implement financial literacy education.
