One activity I loved from the Take Charge Today curriculum was the Foldable for the Basics of Taxes. If your students are having a hard time grasping vocabulary, this is a great tool. Not only did I use this activity for taxes, but any other vocabulary list that were challenging for my students.
-
Another activity I enjoyed was the lesson on Savings Tools. Students had to create a poster board with the different savings tools and be able to identify the different parts connected to each savings tool. This lesson helped students learned the similarities and differences between them.
Advice for New Take Charge Today Users
-
For those new to Take Charge Today's curriculum, do not be worried!! The curriculum is well put together. It gives you alternative ways to teach the material and allows you to choose which one works best for your particular student population. There are Active Learning Tools that will definitely magnify student engagement. It has a search box that allows you to look for parts of the curriculum that you may not have noticed before. I just love the way the curriculum gives you links and other resources to help you teach the subject.
Unique was to use Take Charge Today in the classroom
-
Take Charge Today offers wonderful lesson plans. Along with these lesson plans you have Introductory Activities, Reinforcement Activities, Board Games, Reading and Writing, Movies and Video Clips and Technology. My students enjoy looking at video clips or movie clips as it gives them a different avenue in which to learn the material besides a handout or hearing me talk. Take Charge gives you movie clips or videos that connect with particular lessons. I found that my students could grasp different concepts by watching these movie or video clips. They were engaged and attentive. I really like that Take Charge also provides questions to go with the movie clips. That gives me a chance to see if they were paying attention and whether or not they could relate it to the unit we were covering.
Why join the Take Charge Today Training Team?
-
Joining the Take Charge Today Teacher Training Team will allow me to expand my knowledge with personal finance education. It will allow me to work with other phenomenal teachers from different areas where we can share ideas and collaborate with new ideas. By being on this team I want to be able to bring back tools to help others who may struggle with teaching the subject and enlighten them on the various resources that are available to help make their lessons more engaging as well as rigorous.
