Transferable skills, also known as soft skills, power skills and durable skills, are important for participants to develop as they learn to work with others, share their talents and strengths, communicate effectively, and look forward to being successful employees. Participating in activities which focus on specific transferable skills can help students learn about different skills, practice skill development in a safe setting, and improve their skills as they use them throughout the school year. It’s important for instructors to teach what “clear communication,” “reliability,” “flexibility,” etc. look like in the classroom, and then revisit and reinforce these skills throughout the year. This Active Learning Tool offers several activities related to different transferable skills that can be incorporated, revised, and expanded to meet the needs of students/participants.
