To begin this lesson, participants play the Vocabulary Self-Awareness Activity, in the anticiptory set, they explore how accidents and unplanned events can happen to anyone at anytime in the What if…Life Event Activity. Participants apply what they have learned by completing several case studies (Laura’s Story, Calvin’s Story, Swenson Family) where government programs provided a temporary safety net. To conclude the lesson, participants create a digital story board or write a short story about an unexpected event and the role of government programs.
