When beginning the journey into the workforce, it may be difficult for one to acquire his/her most desired job immediately. An individual may have to take a job affiliated with their career choice and use the experience as a stepping-stone to a more desirable position in their chosen field. The movie, “The Devil Wears Prada”, demonstrates the fact that young professionals beginning their path in the workforce may have to accept a job other than their first choice to be able to pay the bills.
In this Active Learning Tool, participants will evaluate how Andrea handles dilemmas concerning her first job. Discussion of whether the job experience was successful, how Andrea’s personal relationships were dealt with and whether there are really bosses as demanding as Miranda Priestly may occur. Discussion topics such as these will help participants relate to beginning their own job experience whether it was in the past, at the present time, or in the future. Additionally, participants will learn how to handle adverse situations and to learn from the experience.
