Rebecca Bloomwood identifies how financial stress can impact one’s life while attempting to be a journalist at a magazine writing about positive financial practices she has yet to implement personally. While working at a financial magazine, Rebecca works to overcome her own struggle by having to decide between needs and wants in the context of her shopping obsession. Her decisions land her with a pile of credit card debt.

In this Active Learning Tool, participants evaluate how Rebecca makes financial decisions and the impact they have on her life. Participants apply lessons from the movie to their own life as they consider their financial decisions, analyze their personal behavior styles influencing their choices, assess the value of material goods to them, and learn about the consequences of poor financial decisions resulting in adverse situations.
