This lesson helps students understand how taxes fund the public services people use every day. Students learn about three common taxes—sales, income, and property—and how local, state, and federal governments use that revenue. Students will do a vocabulary scavenger hunt using QR codes and sort scenarios based on whether a tax was paid or not paid when the activity occurred. In addition to the PowerPoint, educators can choose to have students do a concept map for the content. The conclusion options include “Did You Pay Your Taxes? Mini Survey” or creating a visual representation of the benefits of taxes.
