Begin the lesson by doing a vocabulary word scavenger hunt using QR codes. Then take a virtual tour of your local community to identify public services and facilities provided through tax dollars. Use a foldable or the PowerPoint presentation to learn the basics of taxes. Conclude the lesson by conducting the True or False Active Learning Tool, or the Escape Room Active Learning Tool. Or, create a pros and cons list for taxes and then conduct a class vote to decide whether or not taxes should be eliminated. Assess participant knowledge by conducting a peer survey about taxes and answering questions based upon the results, or a “Connections” Puzzle.
