In the Getting Paid Lesson Plan from the Earning Unit, participants will explore how to receive income from employment, the methods of payment, how to read a paycheck, the taxes taken from a paycheck including medicare, and what the Form W-4 is for. They will also learn additional benefits of employment like insurance and paid vacations. They will learn these concepts by creating word clouds, watching an episode of The Big Bang Theory, doing a virtual tour to see what public services are provided through tax dollars, play the game of Taboo, play MoneyWorld Squares, do The Companies That We Love! Activity from Card Games Active Learning Tool, entertain scenarios of some of the benefits of being paid, and do some math reinforcement for reading a pay stub.
